On Fridays, I highlight products that I think are sweet, in every sense of the meaning–sometimes literally, but not always!
Although I’m usually one to reluctantly ease into autumn, wishing for more warm summer days to sit by the pool and soak up sunshine, there are lots of things to love about fall, in addition to apples.
Pumpkin flavors, mainly.
Truth be told, most of the time I enjoy all the pumpkin-flavored items that pop up everywhere more than the actual pumpkin pie itself! Starting September 1st, when Starbucks rolls out the much-anticipated Pumpkin Spice Latte, fall flavors seem to instantly appear on every other menu.
On a warmer day this fall, I drove through the local Dairy Queen to get one of these…
Vanilla soft-serve mixed up with pieces of pumpkin pie, lots of cinnamony, spiced flavor, and a dollop of whipped cream? Can’t complain! It was better than I expected. Plus the mini size cost me under three bucks! The Pumpkin Pie Blizzard is the current Blizzard of the Month, so it’s set to remain on the DQ menu for at least another two weeks.
I also taste-tested one of Culver’s seasonal custard treats. Culver’s hasn’t yet made its way across the entire United States, but it’s a Wisconsin-based chain and is AMAZING. Yes, truly deserving of all caps there. It’s my favorite fast-food eatery by a long shot, a guilty pleasure that I reserve for special occasions. The old-fashioned cheeseburgers are cooked in butter and come fresh with toasted buns and Wisconsin cheese, and the custard is the creamiest possible stuff, with lots of fun mix-ins and “flavors of the day.”
This fall it was hard to resist one of its new Salted Caramel Pumpkin Concrete Mixers. The nutritional stats may be scary, but I ordered the smallest size and it was worth every calorie. It was hard to choose just one, too–there were several other pumpkin-y treats on the menu! They typically stay there through the end of November.
My favorite coffee shop choice this fall is Caribou‘s Pumpkin Chai. YUM! I’ve had similar beverages at other coffee shops, and all of them have been creamy and flavorful. Caribou currently offers a handful of other pumpkin-flavored products, as well–including, yes, its own version of the PSL:
Clothing-wise, I’m trying to brace myself for another Minnesota winter up here. From what Pinterest is telling me, vests seem to be making a big comeback this season, and although I’ve always avoided them because they’re poofy and unflattering, likening me to a snowman when worn, this year I finally found one that’s thin, versatile, and best of all, cheap!
I picked up this cute Quilted Barn Vest in “Blackjack” from Old Navy last week, and it looks very similar to a J. Crew style for a much lower price. I love Old Navy! I also bought the same vest in the pink shade, “Fuchsia Islands.” I’ve already worn each several times, so it’s safe to say I’ve been converted! Who knew I could wear a vest without looking like a snowman? Both pair nicely with a chambray shirt, and I like how the black one looks with this pink shirt, skinny jeans, and a tall pair of cognac boots.
*Tip: The vests are way cheaper in stores than online, for reasons unknown to me. I got each one for less than $30!
There you have it: my favorites for fall! What sweet things are you loving this season?
Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any way for discussing any of these products or brands. I very much enjoyed the pumpkin overload I sampled throughout the season, as well as my recent shopping trip at Old Navy–a place I shop at very frequently because it fits my budget and need for bright colors! I simply love these products this season and wanted to share with all of you!
