On Fridays, I highlight products that I think are sweet, in every sense of the meaning–sometimes literally, but not always!

No, I’m not here to talk up all the cool devices from a rather well-known technology company. Sorry, guys, I’m a PC (although I do spend a good chunk of change on iTunes–gotta love those 69-cent song deals)!

I’m thinking more along the lines of real apples. You know, those sweet red fruits that are crispy and juicy all at once? The kind that get baked, dipped in caramel, sliced for pies, and sipped through a straw in juice form? Yeah, those. I know the word “apple” tends to mean something non-food-related these days, but I’m a pretty big fan of the original fruit, so let’s not forget it amidst all the pumpkin (and iPhone) hype. Both are crave-worthy this time of year!

Here are some of my favorite apples and apple-themed products…

Honeycrisp Apples.

Honeycrisp apples

They’re some of the sweetest apples I’ve tasted and relatively new to the scene. Honeygolds–the yellow kind with tiny brown specks–used to take first place in my heart, but now they’re tied with Honeycrisps, because both are so sweet and flavorful. The two varieties are very similar in taste, although the newer Honeycrisps are a lot more well-known. My grandparents have an apple orchard, so I’ve always enjoyed tasting the different flavors, and nothing beats a fresh Honeycrisp or Honeygold apple straight from the tree. The Honeycrisp is actually a hybrid of the Honeygold and Macoun, which is why they taste so similar.

Funny story: when I was in elementary school, my teacher handed out blank apple-shaped papers and instructed every student to color one to look like their favorite kind of apple. Mine was the sole yellow apple hanging in between 20-some reds and two or three greens. My classmates thought I was a strange, underripe-apple-eating weirdo, but they just hadn’t been introduced to Honeygolds yet! Try both kinds if you haven’t…unlike some of the more tart apples, they’re the best for eating raw!

Bath and Body Works Fresh Market Apple Soap.

Fresh Market Apple soap from Bath and Body Works

I picked this up a few months ago when Bath and Body was having one of their soap sales, and I love the scent! It smells just like fresh-picked apples. You can usually get four for $16 or six for $20–sometimes cheaper! I can never leave that store empty-handed. I’m always sold by all the sweet smells!

Apples to Apples.

Apples to Apples game

I don’t play board games very often, but when I do, this is my go-to game. If you’ve never played, it’s a game of comparison in which one person picks an adjective and the rest of the players each choose a noun to be described by that adjective, then the person chooses the best one. Some people choose by the books; others go for the craziest combinations possible. My abs usually hurt from laughing at the end, because when you play with a bunch of fun people, it gets pretty entertaining! When in doubt, grab some spunky little kids or people with unique personalities and try to predict what they’ll come up with. I got my copy of Apples to Apples on the cheap one Black Friday at Target.

Last, but not least…

Apple-Cinnamon Chobani.

Truth: I eat this stuff almost every day, and as a matter of fact, I accidentally ate the one I was going to photograph, hence the blank space where a photo should be. (Ha–sorry about that!) I started trading regular yogurt for Greek yogurt a few years ago when I found out it was a good source of protein, and this is my favorite flavor any brand offers on the grocery store shelf. A lot of times, Greek yogurt doesn’t offer as much flavor as regular yogurt–it’s generally more tart and less sweet. The apple-cinnamon Chobani doesn’t sacrifice flavor for nutrition, though. It has a cinnamon-y layer of apples at the bottom that taste great when mixed with the creamy yogurt. If you haven’t jumped on the Greek yogurt train yet, try one and see how you like it! It’s hard to beat 14 grams of protein in each cup.

That’s it for my apple-flavored favorites right now! Hope your weekend is equally sweet–Happy Friday!

Disclaimer: I was not compensated for any of these reviews. I’m in the apple spirit and these are a handful of products that I actually like and use!

[…] Although I’m usually one to reluctantly ease into autumn, wishing for more warm summer days to sit by the pool and soak up sunshine, there are lots of things to love about fall, in addition to apples. […]
