Happy Independence Day week to my fellow Americans!
I am a total sucker for holiday-themed food and recipes. The Target dollar aisle and seasonal section often prove to be the death of my budget, because I can’t resist the Candy Cane Oreos, the Reese’s Eggs, or the pink-and-red heart-shaped bunting that makes the perfect Pinteresting backdrop.
The 4th of July is no exception, although I often find that there are less recipes to choose from than I’d like. I don’t just want red and blue Jell-O Jigglers (although I consumed my fair share of those as a kid!); I want something unique. Cute, but tasty. Patriotic, but not from a boxed mix.
Here are a few recipes of my own that I’ve enjoyed in the past:
EASY GLAZED FRUIT PIZZA (Bonus if you decorate it like an American flag with strawberries and blueberries!)
HEALTHIER BROCCOLI SALAD (Leave out the broccoli itself and double the cauliflower if you’re going for a strict red and green theme!)
BERRY BURST ICE CREAM OREO CUPCAKES (Add more red food coloring to the frosting or even a layer of blue! And use any red- or white-filled Oreos you can find this time of year.)
And here’s my Pinboard of other red, white and blue ideas I have yet to try!
What are YOU eating this July 4th?
Happy Independence Day everyone! And a special thank you to those who serve and have served to keep our country safe and provide the freedom we all enjoy! ❤🇺🇸
