I’m getting ready to leave on a jet plane to somewhere sunny and warm, so despite the fact that it’s January and smoothies aren’t usually at the forefront of my mind, in my dreams I’m picturing myself on a white sand beach…
Slathered up with sunscreen, sunglasses perched atop my head, I’m relaxing on a chaise lounge in my swimsuit and flip-flops, a refreshing smoothie in hand.
Just a few more days. Just a few more days!
This winter has, in all honesty, been relatively mild, and for that I am so very grateful. Mild winter or not, though, I’m so excited to take some time off and take some serious siestas in the sunshine! I’ve been saving up my vacation time at work for almost a year, and it will feel wonderful to just get away from it all for a while. And I totally love my job. I’m just pumped for a fun trip and some sunny weather!
God is good. True story.
This yummmmy Nutella-filled shake is good for three reasons:
One: It holds me over until I reach the beach. And it provides a sufficient staycation for those of you stuck at home and those of you waiting with me. (Hang in there!)
Two: It helps me to fit into my swimsuit that I plan to wear on said beach because it’s totally healthy.
You understand that Nutella is reason enough. I know you do. :)
I’ve been pretty good at sticking to a healthier diet post-holiday binge, but a protein shake full of Nutella makes that a very easy task.
It also helps that Target is no longer stocking White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms.
Actually, everyone laughs at me because I am so predictably boring with my weekday meals. Oatmeal or protein shake for breakfast, Greek yogurt and fruit for lunch, meat and veggies for dinner, and something sweet somewhere in there. :) I know. I’m so exciting.
I’m here to show you that a protein shake CAN be pretty exciting, though, because…Nutella.

One of my favorite things in life is how Nutella can be substituted for peanut butter in just about everything. My favorite breakfast smoothie is a peanut butter and banana shake with vanilla protein powder…but dare I say that this one is, perhaps, better?
They might be tied. Sweet banana breakfasts are kind of my thing. You know, either in oatmeal or shake form.
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 Tbsp. fat-free milk
- 1 Tbsp. Nutella
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 cup ice
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth, adding ice or milk to reach desired texture.
- Pour into a glass and sip with a straw.
The riper the banana, the sweeter your shake will be!
To make this shake gluten-free, be sure to use gluten-free protein powder.
