If there’s one thing I make more at this time of year than anything else, it’s apple crisp.
It’s easy, it’s warm (which I love when it’s cooler outside), and it makes me feel healthy since it’s full of oats and apples.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I totally eat this for breakfast, and I don’t feel ashamed about it. ;) I usually make apple crisp for dessert one night and then reheat a bowl of the leftovers for breakfast the next morning.
I’ve previously shared my recipe for mini apple crisps, but this is the full-sized version. My grandma shared her recipe with me when I was a kid just learning how to bake, and if I could handle it as a 10-year-old, I’m pretty sure anyone can master this recipe!
You can use any apples you want. My grandparents have an apple orchard with several different varieties, and I think I’ve used about all of them in this recipe at one time or another! Just slice up your apples of choice, toss them in a baking dish, mix up the crumble and sprinkle it on top, and then bake the whole thing. Simple!
I serve mine warm with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream. You could also use whipped cream or serve it as is!

APPLE CRISP Yield: 16 servings INGREDIENTS: 3 apples (about 5 cups sliced) 2 tsp. lemon juice 1/3 cup sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Crumble topping: 1 cup brown sugar, packed 1 cup flour 1 cup quick oats 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup butter, softened INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Toss apples with lemon juice. Add sugar and cinnamon; stir until apples are evenly coated. Spread in a 9x13 baking dish. In a large bowl, make crumble topping. Combine brown sugar, flour, oats, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; mix well. Add soft butter and mix with a fork until mixture is crumbly. Evenly sprinkle crumb mixture over apples. Bake for 35 minutes or until apples are soft. Use a fork to test the apples for tenderness if you are unsure. Serve apple crisps warm with vanilla ice cream.
